there are these 2 products that are meant for riding your bike with your dog. one is 'the walkydog'. the other is called 'the springer'.

has anyone used either product? i have an 88 lb lab and im about 125lbs. i want to make sure both my dog and myself are safe when biking.

  1. They are both unsafe as it relies on your dog to be almost perfect not the device used.

If you have medical insurance you might want to call them as many will not honour a claim if either device is used and you or your dog need medical attention,or even worse, you hurt someone else whilst crashing.

I'm sorry if this sounds negative.

    Safety first though

  2. My lab is 65lbs (I weigh 185lbs) and I unfortunately don't ride with her anymore. I had a bad experience with the Springer type with her basically pulling me off of the trail to chase after something. Of course she wasn't strong enough to "pull" me sideways but I did have to dump the bike quick to not go off the trail and give me a second to yell at her to stop.

With your dogs size pretty close to yours, DO NOT USE Clipless or "Toe Cage" pedals as you won't have enough time to react if he/she pulls you. Also make sure you ride on bike paths that are pretty wide so your dog is ok with running on the surface and doesn't want to wander into the grass unless you are on the left passing. Be careful but enjoy riding!
