  1. There are several possibilities. Use this article as a checklist.

  2. You can try cleaning the bottom of the flapper if it isn't worn out. Also clean around the hole that the flapper sits on. If all that fails to work, you will have to get a new flapper. Just thought of something else. Make sure there is enough slack in the chain to allow the flapper to seat all the way.

  3. Check the float adjustment.  If the water is running into the overflow pipe, the float is set too high or the float valve is bad.  If the water is not going into the overflow, the valve and float are probably ok and you need to replace the flapper valve at the bottom of the tank.

    Bert

  4. I've bent the float down before and its worked for me.

  5. Check the "flapper". They wear out and will not seal good. The rubber deteriorates and becomes wavy.

  6. in a stern voice you say "stop"

  7. take off the lid and turnoff the water if the water stops running right away then the float valve  in the tank needs ajustment or replaced , if the water continues to drain into the bowl then the flapper in the bottom of the tank is dirty or worn out and needs to be replaced , also look to see if the chain (witch some do )isn't catching on something and holding the flap open

  8. The flapper is probably worn out.  Not a big deal to fix, here is a how too site from Lowes
