Ok so I'm not sure what is wrong with it, it just suddenly wouldn't quit making that running noise. The water level doesn't seem to appear to be getting higher or lower or anything. I took the back off and theres this big blue thing that looks like a big oval with a long metal piece, when I take my finger and pull it up a little the water noise stops but when I let it go it keeps making the noise. No idea what piece that is, or what could be wrong with it, or even if thats the problem? Anyone have any idea as what piece that is or what could be wrong with it?

  1. Hi Kasey,

A Tank Rebuild Kit will take care of the problem easily found at most hardware stores.  They are usually cheap and the instructions well detailed.  If you are on a septic system, might be a good idea to cut the water supply off at the wall to prevent filling your septic tank, till you get it fixed. :)

  2. take the little metal rod and bend it down just a little bit  so that the big oval is closer to the water.   this will stop it from running.

  3. At the bottom of the tank is a rubber (actually silicon) "stopper" that seals off the flow of water from the tank to the toilet bowl.  See if there is an obstruction (on mine, the little chain that lifts the stopper sometimes comes loose and gets under the stopper; if yes, reattach it).  You may need to replace the stopper.  Take a picture of it on your cell phone and show it to someone at the hardware store.  It's pretty easy to replace it, and this is a must-have life skill.  A running toilet can drive you crazy, run up your water bill, deplete an important Earth resource, lead to global warming, doom your grandchildren.  So, get it fixed pretty soon.

  4. Ur level control is worned and should be replaced.  Ur flopper is also should be replaced.  This set is sold separately and it's not expensive at all.  Flopper and level control valve should be in the neighborhood of $15.

  5. it is the ball c**k if there is a s***w on top of the end that goes to the valve(opposite the oval thing) turn it clockwise a few turns till it shuts off by itself       or bend the metal rod down ( hold the rod so it doesn't break the valve)

  6. Sounds like your ballcock isn't shutting the water flow off when the tank is full enough.  They are easy enough to replace, but if you have never done it, it's best to have someone do it for you or call a plumber.

  7. that is your ballcock just take the little rod in both hands and bend it down slightly so that the ball goes barely into the water and I bet the running stops
