  3. Light is an electro-magnetic wave. The vibrations of the electric bit, (and the magnetic bit) are perpendicular to the direction of travel. This is called a TRANSVERSE wave. Unlike a sound wave in which the vibrations are parallel to the direction of travel. Hope this helps
