when are we going to see the writing on the wall and change our ways. i know you all say whenever i ask this relatively same question, i get "we alredy are" i havent seen that one bit here! when i say to trade in your suv i hear the same "we already are" im still seeing them. i hear "we are doing something" and i clearly cannot see one inch of difference between now and last year even. the only thing is people complain. thats it. no action, just talk and bicker, and at the end of the day were still just as dependant on the middle east (which is mindbolgling) as we ever were.

how many of you truley honestly believe that we will have a fuel change sometime in our lives? or will it be closer to the turn of the century (2000into 2100)?

  1. Why dont you go and change the world instead of sitting on the computer typing this onto yahoo answers.

I don't see you trying to help the fuel change... no sir.

  2. The person prior to me is correct about those countries and a few others, but subsidies are even being lowered or removed in some of them. In England they're paying $10 a gallon, plus France and in Turkey it's $11. Some pay even more. In Canada, our neighbor to the north, some are paying nearly $6 a gallon. Even in one part of Michigan, it's $5.49 a gallon currently. I can hardly wait to see $5 or $6 a gallon gas to see who will change further.

  3. When you are the biggest buyer of a commodity you expect to get it for less due to the size of your purchase. I think gas prices are just about right. If it keeps the speeders and drunks off the road, raise it some more. Raise it a bit more with added taxes to fund road construction improvements to bring down the death toll on the highways every year.

The US needs new infrastructure such as light rail and subways in major cities. We've been spoiled with "cheap" gas for too long. Actually, we are paying more than the price on the pump. The government has given away billions to the oil companies in subsidies, tax breaks, and incentives so part of your tax bill is supporting big oil, too.

  4. Actually you are wrong.

Many countries including the largest populations subsidize gas at very deep discounts.  To name a few major nations, China, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Indonesia, Venezuela.  The list goes on.  All the countries above pay on average a dollar or less per gallon of fuel.

The countries whom pay the highest price of gas such as England, are in fact paying a very large tax aimed at discouraging driving.

The United States is a sprawling country and large quantities of fuel is needed for every day life.  Supermarkets, grocery stores etc require daily trucking in order to keep supplied.  Many people commute as many as three hours to their jobs.  All of us grew up on cheap energy and it will take years for us to adjust and logistics in combination with economics to correct the diminishing supply of cheap and abundant fossil fuels.

There are a variety of ways that oil costs may be pushed off and the normal assumption is that the source of energy will  change, but the demand will remain constant.  People as I have mentioned above can only cut energy costs so much.  Point is, I am not prepared to overhaul my lifestyle for the fact that I am paying an extra 20 bucks a week.
