The whole world eyeing 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup bids
After the successful hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup by South Africa, the eyes of the world have turned to see as to who will get the world football governing body’s nod to host the 2018 and 2022 World Cup rights.
FIFA World Cup has become one of the biggest events in the last few decades and some people have called it as a tournament which brings nations closer and helps in building a good image for countries on a global map. Just looking
at the quadrennial spectacle in South Africa, the world got a chance to witness Africa’s culture and heritage closely.
The biggest hit of the event were Vuvuzelas, the noisy trumpets that first faced a lot of criticism but eventually became very popular not only with local fans but with international spectators as well.
FIFA’s decision to give South Africa the chance to show their love towards the beautiful game has helped them economically as well and the nation will surely benefit from such a huge event – its tourism industry has already been
given a big boost.
And now, everybody is looking to know which nation will get the chance to showcase their power and culture through the grandest footballing event of all.
FIFA President Sepp Blatter was seen along with the top people of World Cup-bidding countries as the time to choose the hosts for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups countries in Zurich comes nearer.
Blatter’s vote in the end could open the flood of happiness for any nation if the casting of votes ends in a tie. Sepp Blatter has a special power to cast his vote on a condition of a draw of votes among two countries.
Blatter has been a long servant for FIFA with his career at the football’s governing body stretching to a period of thirty-five years. During his tenure, he has been a huge hit with fans. The reason of his popularity is largely
due to the hosting of the World Cup in a better way after becoming the president of FIFA in 1998.
Blatter has won millions of hearts in the largest continent of the world, Asia, and especially Africa with his unrelenting effort to bring them the World Cup, breaking the stranglehold of major football continents of Europe and
South America. He would be looking to add to his fan base in a new country and it would be great for the world if the likes of Russia, Spain and Portugal get a chance to host the upcoming World Cups. Given their love affair with the game of football, it would
be a treat to watch because surely they would present the World Cup in a different and adventurous way.
The best possible bidders in terms of football history are Spain and Portugal. It would be great to see archrivals combining to collectively display their organizing talent and bringing in their culture and heritage to the forefront.
Spain, the current world champions, will find extra impetus to further enhance their reputation among the top nations of football if they get a World Cup hosting opportunity.
