Do they give an accurate portrayal of most women in today's society? Stuck-up, selfish, drama queens and materialistic?

  1. No. Real women rarely, if ever, act like they do in any facet of life. If women actually wrote the show, it would be much more realistic.

  2. Some women, sure.. most? No.

  3. Oh yeah, 100 per cent of women are exactly like four male-invented tv stars on a scripted drama which shows for an hour once a week.

I mean just look around you ~ it's soooooooo obvious that all women are exactly like the four characters, written by male writers, on this tv show.

And all guys are exactly like Batman, Moses and the Russian men's synchronised swimming team ~ just ask Anatool.

    Cheers :-)

  4. I can't speak for every woman or even "most" women, but I can speak for myself. In high school, university, and where I work, there are catty, stuck-up, selfish drama queens - but I don't think that's how the women on the show are portrayed.  Have you seen an episode or perhaps the movie? I'll break down the characters for you:

Charlotte is sweet and innocent and just wants a man to love her and one that she can spend the rest of her life with.

Miranda would be the closest thing to a "career driven woman" who usually puts her job before all else, but comes across as a genuine, caring character who would be a great friend in real life.

Samantha is a label obsessed, fashion savvy, s*x loving woman who IS selfish (not to her best friends though), who IS very in love with herself and uses men for s*x.

Carrie is pretty down to earth, in love with designer shoes and handbags and spends the whole show trying to find and be with her one true love.

While I can sort of see how you would get a biased opinion by watching maybe one episode or seeing a preview for the movie, you clearly aren't a fan (which is of course fine). I think that you can find characteristics from all the girls in different women you meet - whether they be Charlotte's soft spoken manner and likelihood to be naive about a situation, Miranda's obsession with her job, Samantha's love for s*x, or Carrie's hunt for love.

Also, let me add that shows and movies aren't written with the intent to relate to every type of person. America's Next Top Model might not appeal to someone who only shops at Wal-Mart and has no idea what the fashion industry entails (and has no desire to learn).

And your section of your question where you ask if most women are materialistic, I ask you this: "What is wrong with caring about the way we look and spending a lot of money to do so?" Why should you care if I choose to save up a month's salary to buy a Chanel purse? Does it really bother you if we spend $200+ on a pair of shoes? Do you really get upset if we splurge on pedicures and facials? Why should anyone else care about the way we spend our money? I think being materialistic is irrelevant unless it takes over your whole life - which in the case of the 4 women on this show, they all juggle careers, families, relationships and friendships. I don't think their constant need to buy Jimmy Choos relects them negatively at all.

  5. I think that these women portray someone in America.  Maybe not most.  but some or even a few.  In every state you have a w***e, a prude who likes s*x, a ditsy chick that is looking for love through her cooch and a girl who spends so much money on shoes and clothes its ridiculous.  These characters are real, they just don't portray most women.

  6. No, it portrays them as the average feminist.

  7. (Leaning forward and whispering in your ear)  Its - A - Movie!

based on a T.V. show that was made up! It's not real life! They're not real people! Get over it!

  8. What I want to know is if Sara Jessica Parker is going to re-form that band she used to sing with,

    Twisted Sister

  9. Oh, god yes...I work 40 hours a week and have a small child and a house, but I have SCADS of time and money for buying Manolo Blahniks and hanging out in cocktail lounges throwing back Cosmopolitans.

Do you think the movie "The Incredible Hulk" is an accurate portrayal of men? I mean...do you turn green and get three times your normal size when you get mad?

  10. No, fortunately.

  11. I certainly hope not. I have a friend who went to go see it (he's a critic so he had to go rate the movie) and he told me that while he was trying really hard not to fall asleep he remembers that 90% of the audience were women (of course) and that they cheered at a lot of the actions the characters did on the screen.

  12. Um yeah you do know that show was written by g*y men, don't you?

  13. Patty and Selma on "The Simpsons" said it best. They described SATC as "The story of four single women, who act like g*y men." So the answer to your question is no.

  14. Of course - everything out of Follywood is real - doncha know?
