Only Jesus is righteous.  We are not.  Even our best attempt is horridly unrighteous.

Jesus gives His righteousness to us as a gift, imputing to us His righteousness, when we believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

That doesn't mean we aren't sinners anymore.  It does mean that we are saved and have Jesus's perfect record given to our account in heaven.  

All saved believers are still sinners in this life.

I know for the definition of righteousness as "right standing" before God. This means that having righteousness allows you to be able to be in the very presence of God. Without it you could not stand before a holy God. As Christ is "our" righteousness it is He who gives us a place before God. Without Christ we are nothing, and our own righteousness is as filthy rags. Isaiah, of course!

Therefore, I conclude! There are two kinds of righteousness, ours and God's. The one we need is God's. And we can only get it through faith in Christ.

Trying to do Jehovah's will.  Abraham, Noah, David were all considered righteous to God.  But they were sinners just as we are.  They were declared righteous by their faith in Jehovah.  It took a lot of faith for Abraham to consider offering his son as a sacrifice.  He had faith that Jehovah could resurrect his son back to life.  Noah was also considered faithful.  Against tremendous odds he built an Ark to save himself and his family.  Everyone was against him and yet he had enough faith in the creator to act on what he said.   For that, Jehovah considered him righteous.
