Hi, I have been trying to find information about this, as my 13 yr old son is feeling so sick with worry about this, he doesn't want to go to school.

Please give me some answers, and please no rude or silly ones as my son will be reading this.

Once again, Thankyou.

  1. Of course it's not ending. Tell him to stop worrying. Where do people get this stuff???

  2. Where did he get that idea?

  3. Hi Minny!  Do I understand your question correctly, your 13 year old son believes that the world is ending in 8 days?

Wow!  That is heavy for a 13 year old.  No wonder he is afraid.  What to do?  Okay, here's the first thing to do:

    1.  Find out exactly how this notion got started.  When I was his age (and even younger and even after that) a certain proselyting group would go door-to-door in my small home town proclaiming with all certainty that the world was going to end and soon.  This group which still exists today predicted the End Times countless times since their history which began in 1876 and each time failed to be correct.  If the source of your son's fear is such a group you can assure him that these groups are ALWAYS wrong.

Another reason we feared the end during my youth was because of the Cold War.  Someone was gonna drop the 'big one' and the whole world was gonna go crispy!  That never happened either and the Cold War is over and the skirmishes over in the Middle East are likely to remain there until he's all grown up.

    2. Are they talking of some vague prediction by say the people who built the Meso-American Long-Count Calendar?  You know, some people believe that it'll all end in 2012 because that's how far along these people got in their calendar-making before they stopped working on it all together.  The reason they quit working on their calendar is because they were chipping away at stone (very time consuming) when they were overrun by enemies, plague or some other natural disaster and had to head for the hills.  Their calendar in no way predicts the End Times, remember, these people failed to predict their own end so what makes anyone believe they were capable of prediction our own end???

    3.  Is some supposedly lost prophecy of Nostradamus circulating?  Well Michel de Notre Dame (his pen name was: Nostradamus) failed to predict any future event.  So-called Nostradamus experts embellished his predictions to make them fit the even AFTER the fact. He wrote in quatrains which by their very nature provide very little info. and are subject to very broad interpretations.  As you know a quatrain is a four line poem; how much information can you cram into a four line poem!  Nostradamus predicted that in 1999 the Great King of Terror would come from the sky...  We all know now that no matter how you slice it the Great King was a real No-Show in 1999!  So you see, these kind of predictions are always bogus.

Minnie, I certainly hope that this has helped in some small way.

    Good luck with your son.

    Best,

    H

  4. This stupid idea originates from the fact that on September 10, the so-called "Large Hadron Collider" in Switzerland will be activated. Some weirdos have made up a story that this machine will produce a black hole that will swallow the earth. Which is obvious nonsense, but all such nonsense makes it quickly all over the web.
