The year 2012?.........?

ok, i know a lot of people think some major event is going to take place in the year 2012. others think nothing will happen, and some have never even heard of the theory. ive heard about the mayan calendar thing, but can someone please explain it all better to me? im confused! (quite honestly, i dont think anything will happen, but i love to think something will!)

Mayans believe the end of the Age will happen that year in December.  Every age ends with a cataclysmic event and a new age begins from the ashes of the old world.  However, supposedly, the world will end this time around.  Whatever...people have been planning for the end of the world since people first existed.  It isn't going to happen anytime in our lifetime, so don't worry.  And even if it does, at least we live in America so we can kill all of the lesser people of the world who try to take our food and resources.

There are a bunch of Judgement Day fanatics who believe the world will end on the last day of the Mayan calendar, December 21, 2012. However, this is not really the end of all time according to the Mayans. They separate their calendar into cycles, thousands of years long. Dec. 21 is just the end of one cycle, and the beginning of the next.

If you'd still like to believe it, the new cycle is supposed to bring an age of enlightenment, and material possesions will lose all value.

well there could be anything, like a cure for cancer(cause I heard news that in later future they might find one)..and maybe if our World is evironmently friendly then it could be better or it could be getting hotter each 3 years and we will end up dying in 2012 or something..but I hope not I'll only be 17 that time LOL

Based on the Meso-American Long Count Calender NOTHING will happen in 2012.  People just love to start 'scare-talk.'

The people who built this calendar were chipping away at stone, a very time consuming process.  When they arrived at a certain date in 2012 they simply stopped working on their calendar.  Why?  Most likely because they were overrun by enemies or overtaken by plague or some other natural disaster.  And so they abandoned their calendar-making in order to head for the hills.  Remember, this people failed to predict their own end (through assimilation).  Why should anyone believe that they succeeded in predicting our own end???

well the Mayan's, the only group of people to get most of their predictions right, said that the world as we know it will end in the year 2012.

but a prediction is just a prediction. also remeber this prediction has been translated out of their language so when things are translated they sometimes get messed up a little. so they clould have been predicting anything from a natural distaster to an eclispse

most people think it clould be Doom's Day

I guess we will find out in a few years! 8)
