Theater Performing?

I am 16 years old. I have just recently realized that i would love to go into theater work (performing, singing etc.) But i have no idea where to begin. I am getting singing lessons over the summer, but what else should i do? I would also like to be on broadway but i am afraid my parents will say no because it isn't a stable career. Anyone have suggestions?

Get involved in community theater and also take dance classes.  Also take some drama classes in school.  

Broadway can be a very stable career if you're really good.   I recently accompanied for a professional opera singer from New York.  She said it does tend to be a "feast or famine" type of career.  But you learn how to save the money when the "feast" comes, instead of spending it all at once.
