Question:

Theater jealousy...?

I truly love and appreciate theater. I am constantly in awe of people's performing abilities and such, and I really enjoy making myself vulnerable to the chemistry and magic concocted on a stage.

But as I continue to indulge in the theater, I continue to bring myself down because I am not as talented. I am getting so jealous and upset with myself because I am never going to be as brilliant or as talented.

How can I make myself a better performer? How can I learn to appreciate without getting jealous?

  1. Don't be so hard on yourself: don't try and speed up the learning process just to get really good at what you want to do and to be where everyone else is; that's not gonna work and is a recipe for disaster.

Like learning an instrument, don't compare yourself to others. Focus on what you need to work on instead of wasting time getting jealous. Hey, everybody else was at square one just like you.

Instead, use the people you're jealous of as inspiration. Turn the whole situation around for the better. Then work at it: take classes in acting. Practice at home. Take everything one step at a time.

  2. All you gotta do is look at the people who are not so good and worse than you.... It accually does work; no matter how bitchy it may seem! ;)

    Good Luck!!

  3. Try to take yourself out of the situation. It will be easier if you look to these people as role models. And use their example to propel yourself to do your best.
