Theft of your transaction info by gas station attendant!?

I found out the hard way. I used my gas card at a neighborhood gas station and once i finished pumping my gas i removed my receipt and was on my way. I did not know I had to clear the screen to totally end the transaction. you just get a beep to tell you to remove your receipt. Well, the attendant helped her/his self to $50.00 dollars worth of gas on me. My statement showed 2 charges of $50.00 when I only did 1. The card company insist that the charges are mine, because they refuse to believe an employee would do that. I countered his response with the question of why a red flag didn`t go up on two identical charges on the same day. He responded that it was not unusual for a person to make 2 charges on the same day. Well I didn`t do it so who did? Needless to say I paid on it and it is still being investigated. Make sure you clear the pump transaction when you finish your transaction. If not, you can be helping someone else fill their gas tank complements of you.

  1. Tell them either credit the account or you'll file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC0). Their toll free # 1-877-382-4357.

  2. If the pump PRINTED a receipt, the transaction WAS closed.  I have yet to SEE a pump where you CAN clear the screen, or where there is anything to clear.  I am NOT stating the attendant did not use your information to steal gas, but if they did, they got the info form the computer and NOTHING you could have done would have stopped them.  What is MORE likely is that the system submitted the charge twice for the same transaction.  In a case of theft, the amounts would be unlikely to match.
