What is the importance of the regional writing Hurston uses? I read the novel, and I do realize the dialect in which Janie speaks is a regional one. But what is its purpose? I am missing that point obviously, please help me!!!

  2. well a few things to look at.

    1. The dialect reflects the time period..... early 1900s, and helps to set the stage about what florida was like then.

    2. The dialect reflects the south, and all of the racism/sexism that was inherent in the rural south in the early 20th century.

    3. It is a black dialect, which makes sense for black characters.
