i need some ideas for a themed 14th birthday party

Lots of cool left of center themes you can work with--questions though...son or daughter?  Coed party?  What month is the party in--summer and winter parties are very different.

What are you into? Always fun to go with that. Like if you like pop music...you can go there, etc. Like my girl (she's 8) loves Miley Cyrus, so we did the whole theme that way. Last year we did a hawaiian beach party theme.

Hollywood:  we did sweet 16 but you can do 14.

You could have it be where people dress like movie stars or have it red carpet semi formal where the birthday girl steals the show in a red gown with gloves. They have really super cheap decorations at party cheap for this and you can get cheap hollywood scene setter background large plastic murals at fun4parties.com. Black, gold, Silver latex balloons and they also sell hollywood mylar balloon at partycheap. They sell a red carpet there. Check the length what you need.. We used it and it was fine, goes down with tape included (leaves a sticky tape mark, need a light adhesive remover to remove the sticky tape mark). Have the party at a time where you dont have to serve dinner just appetizers and if renting somewhere, sundays are cheapest. We just had our hollywood party and veggie tray did not go over well. Fruit tray went over really well. Taco dip and chips went over very, very well and had to be restocked twice. Also silver dollar sandwiches or rolls were perfect, hand sized. I saw the buns at the store and you can easily make these. For favors we bought the gold and black mardi gras beads at oriental trading, and also from there directors clapboard keychains, and star trophy that we personalized. We also bought a sweet 16 plastic candy mold and pink melting chips and made lollipops, just melt the chips, spoon into mold and freeze for 5 minuttes. The lollipop bags are 2.00 for 100 and come clear with ties. You use them for the favors andethe suckers. We made our own hollywood favor tags using the microsoft works business card maker section. use white cardstock that is very cheap for a few sheets at the craft store. Insert a movie clipart or save a hollywood image from google image to your picture folder and then insert. Buy marilyn monroe, humphrey bogart, audrey hepburn etc. posters. And next to the picture right Sarah's sweet 16 or whatever. We bought a marilyn stand up poster and paris hilton (someone the teens relate to) and that went over great for taking pictures, 23 bucks each at ebay new, and combined shipping if you buy more than 1. We bought black plastic tablecloths at the dollar store and gold overlays at efavormart that were so cheap. gotta have a DJ. Make sure to tell him/her to have a microphone. Shop around, you can find a cheap one, get a contract. You could buy black and foil gold different size stars to hang from the ceiling. The centerpieces on party cheap or even oriental trading are cute. Also on the table have balloon arrangements with a star balloon weight on partycheap, black, gold siliver and 1 mylar hollywood balloon. we bought black and gold napkins and plates at the dollar store.

We bought a photo op Hollywood arch called hooray for hollywood from shindigz. It really maded the party decorations.

Make sure to get a personalized hollywood banner at shindigz or wherever.

Movie party theme for hall or at home. Have a movie themed party. They sell decorations for this at oriental trading. com and you can also find some movie stuff on the hollywood sites I mentioned above. If at home watch a cool movie, have popcorn and all kids of candy and junk food. Make or buy pizza and have sundaes. Have a sleep over with the girls if you want. Have a dance in a hall with this theme. Have everhyone wear a movie star costume.

Luau, beach Hawaii: Orientaltrading has the coolest decorations and favors for this theme and the cutest tropical invitation in the bottle. Give your guests leis as they come in. Play Limbo, Hula hoop, and have a few grass skirts and everyone (including the guys) have to give hulaing a try. Again if you have room to do this at home or you can rent a small room. Candy theme: Pink tablecloths, pink and white balloons. Make candy bouquets for the tables with short wide mouth vase from the dollar store. Fill 1/3 with peppermint disks. Buy colorful lollipops and put in the vase. Make another one t he same but use candy sticks instead like cherry, lime, etc. You can attach bows to each one with a favor card that says your initial, 16 or thanks for coming to my sweet 16 and then after the party give them out as favors. Get personalized M and Ms to put in small favor bags. Get personalized hershey bar wrappers and little personalized stickers that go on the bottom of hershey's kisses or even hard candy. Buy plate size styrofoam 3 inch thick rounds and wrap in clear cellophane for a big hard candy decorations. you could put a wood dowel in one to make it a sucker. Play twister. For favors those candy necklaces, bracelets ands ring pops and candy lipsticks. They sell inflatable lollipops at Windy City Novelities. Buy a sweet 16 plastic sucker mold. We got 1 for 2.50 on Ebay. We bought 3 bags of colored chocolate at the craft store and 1.50 each and made 27 lolliopops out of that. A bag of 100 lolly bags and ties is 1.99. It was so easy to make. Shindigz sells personalized clear candy jars. Also have cotton candy. Decorate with pink and white tissue balls. Also party cheap sells a sundae tissue decoration.

Sweet games: One game is you melt small pieces of chocolate into small bowls and then you blindfold people one at a time and have them taste and they have to guess what kind of candybar it is. Then have a candy prize for the winner, like a little candy gift basket.

Fill a jar with some type of small candies, maybe personalized M and Ms with a 16 on them or your initials. Have people guess how many and again have a prize for the winner.

Play bingo using Candy hearts as bingo chips.

Twister is a colorful game that goes with candy theme.

Fill a pinata full of popular candy. Sour stuff seems to be in.

You could do a Willie Wonka like contest. Buy these personalized candy bar wrappers and put a few golden tickets inside when you assemble them. Then, hand them out at the party for an activity and have some small door prize for the winners.

Neon/Glow in the dark This is a cool theme!

For the invites oriental trading has neon badges. They are neon nylon necklaces that have a clear plastic case. You need to make the cards on your computer using the business card maker on your computer or just use the MS Word. You might want to put a really big VIP in color and on the back at the top Nicole's Neon Bash in cool color and font and then the party info, who what when.

For any theme you choose check out scene setters. These are huge plastic murals ke your theme looks so real. We have used these and love them and so cheap. You buy backgrounds and can add things to them.

Have a Hills party like the MTV show. Decorate with Hollywood backgrounds from fun4parties.com. Tell the girls on the invite to wear Hills type dresses and guys preppy style: give the girls rockstar sunglasses like they wear on the hills from windycity novelities. Have a fashion show. Get stores to donate a few items, have your friends model.

80's prom theme: This would be so cool. Decorate like it is a high school prom from the 80s and everyone has to dress from that time.

Well... it depends whoever the party is for likes... but some popular ones for teenagers are the beach/Hawaii theme, the Hollywood theme, Mardi Gras, the 1970's theme. but it depends on what they like. The you can get specific with an idea.

for mine i did a swim party, but here some other ideas

a beach theme, what ever sport she likes as in soccer basketball, and for the beach theme if she likes voleyball u can do something like that, a dress up make up thing where u can set up a table of make up and a clothes table and then u can tell them u have like 10 minutes oh ya dont forget the accesories and shoes and u can judge them and pick a winner.

For my teenager's party last year, I did a retro party...lots of 70s decorations (peace signs, flowers) and music.  I did table toppers made from 45 rpm records.  We also did a peace sign pinata.  Since retro is so popular these days (and even 80s is called retro LOL), it goes over well with the teens as well as the tweens.  Good luck with the party :-D
