Theo Bos wins the opening stage of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey 2012
Theo Bos of Rabobank Cycling Team wins the first stage of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey 2012.
The cyclist rode brilliantly and finished the 135 kilometre race in a quickest time of 3 hours, 5 minutes and 55 seconds.
Matthew Harley Goss of GreenEdge Cycling Team finished second with Daniele Colli, Alessandro Petacchi and Boy Van Poppel finishing at the third, the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
The 28-year-old was delighted after the victory and thanked his team for their continuous support throughout the race.
He cited, “I still had Graeme Brown and Mark Renshaw with me, but when they came out of the lead, I thought it was still too early to go for the sprint’.
“When Goss and Lancaster of GreenEdge came past me, I could hook up eith thlem and I still had enough to pass Goss,” Bos said.
The Dutch started his professional campaign with Team Rabobank Continental in 2009 and moved to Cervelo Test Team for the 2010 season.
He accepted an offer from Team Rabobank in 2011 and helped the side with numerous performances in the past season.
Bos finished third at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in the past season. He claimed stages at the Tour of Oman and the Tour of Denmark.
Theo bagged his first victory of the 2012 season at the Dwars door Drenthe and also finished third at the Clasica de Almeria 2012 to mark a perfect start to his new season.
Javier Ramirez Abeja, Albert Timmer and Gabor Kasa succeeded during the first sprint of the race.
Bos succeeded during the second sprint of the race with Matthew Harley Goss and Daniele Colli securing the second and the third positions.
He is now leading the stage 1 classifications with a healthy lead of 4 seconds over Matthew Harley Goss of Team GreenEdge.
Daniele Colli is further two seconds behind at the third position while Alessandro Petacchi of Team Lampre-ISD is holding the fourth position with a total deficit of 10 seconds on the race leader.
He is now eyeing the 153 kilometre stage 2 of the race to extend his lead during the eight-day race.
