Theo Bos wiped away his three year old memories with the Turkish race
Theo Bos was involved in a controversial crash which occurred in the final 800 metres during the final stage of the Tour of Turkey 2009.
Daryl Impey was easily winning the race when Bos grabbed his shoulder and forced him to ground which badly injured Impey.
Theo admitted his fault and was immediately disqualified from the race. The cyclist was later banned from professional cycling for ruining the image of cycling.
Hence, UCI marked its ruling on 1 May 2009, “Bos’s behavior undermined the image, reputation and interests of cycling”.
His one month suspension from the sport was from 15 August 2009 to 14 September 2009.
The cyclist washed away all the bad memories from the incident after his remarkable performance during the opening stage of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey 2012.
He completed the 135 kilometre race in a fastest time of 3 hours, 5 minutes and 55 seconds and occupied the top podium spot.
Matthew Harley Goss of Team Green Edge finished 4 seconds behind and occupied the second position while Daniele Colli of Team Type 1 and Alessandro Petacchi of Team Lampre-ISD secured the third and the fourth positions.
While commenting on the stage victory he cited, "I didn't know we were at the same place, I just found out. For me, it's just another bike race”.
“This case was closed a long time ago. To win here doesn't give me any extra feeling or a different feeling”.
Bos noted that he normally rides the Tour of Romandie for his Giro preparation but the Turkish race has served as an excellent preparation for the Italian Grand Tour.
Theo cited, “I've won today against a lot of top sprinters, but I can't say that I'll do the same at the Giro because I don't know how they and their team will race once we're on the road in two weeks time".
The 28-year-old registered his first win of the 2012 season during the Dwars Door 2012.
He currently holds the fourth overall spot after the stage 2 classifications and is optimistic to strengthen his lead for the coming stages of the race.
