Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer hold meeting with Mike Quade to decide future plans – MLB News
As Jed Hoyer became the new general manager of the Chicago Cubs, the status of Mike Quade, the team manager, hangs in balance as a decision on it is expected soon. There is news that the decision may be made within a week.
On Tuesday, Theo Epstein, who is the Chicago Cubs’ president of baseball operations, had a meeting with Quade along with Jed Hoyer. The meeting is said to have lasted for six hours to analyse and weigh up their future vision for the Cubs.
Epstein called the meeting productive and a thorough one as he spoke to the journalists in the news conference held after the discussions.
With Jed Hoyer becoming the new general manager and Quade having had the experience of leading the team for a while now, Epstein’s meeting holds huge significance. The Cubs failed to make any impression on their fans in the 2011 regular season with 91 losses
and winning only 71 games.
"Mike is clearly a good baseball guy," Epstein said. "We have a lot to process. We're going to speak again shortly and we hope to have a resolution on this matter, I'd say within a week from now."
There is also a fact that continues to bother the Cubs’ fans. Since 1904, the team has not won any World Series title, an aspect that could hardly be overlooked by the trio. It is in this context, especially the performance in 2011 that meeting has more
significance.
But Hoyer stated they were still in the process of thinking. "We're still in the process of thinking about that conversation and bouncing that off each other," Hoyer said. "[Quade] is a great baseball guy. ... We'll try to make a decision here quickly."
With a lot of changes, especially the upper tiers of the Chicago Cubs, there is hope of resuscitation in the team given the fact that Hoyer and Epstein have been key in helping the Boston Red Sox achieve victories in 2004 and 2007. It will be interesting
to see what type of impact Quade will have on the team for the coming 2012 season.
