Theo Epstein wants talent in the Chicago Cubs - MLB News
As the big Opening Day game nears for the Chicago Cubs, there are a few insights and considerations that the team’s manager of baseball operations has. On Tuesday, April 3, Epstein spoke of the talent that the Cubs require at this point in time.
"We need some more impact talent and we need some guys who have the ability to break through. It'd be nice to get a breakthrough player or two this year and have someone move from that interesting prospect category to that potential impact category."
Cubs are entering the 2012 regular as a team which lost over 90 of its games the past season. However, a few developments – big in nature, have brought about a sense of hope and anticipation in and around the club.
Theo Epstein is one of the reasons why the Cubs’ fans are pinning enormous hopes on the team. Among other decisions that he made soon after taking charge, he brought Dale Sveum as the team manager.
The young manager is being seen as the symbol of hope and force for the team. He has previously inspired the Milwaukee Brewers’ offence as hitting coach. He came in the team when the former manager Mike Quade was relieved of the managerial responsibilities.
However, along with the experience and energy that Dale Sveum brings, Theo Epstein hopes, and exhorts the players, to compete and win.
"There's been an incredible amount of hard work put in by Dale and the coaching staff, and most importantly the players, to put ourselves in position to go out there and compete and win," Epstein said. He added, "Nothing will be given to us.”
Theo Epstein has a history of doing almost the unthinkable and impossible. When, only in recent years, he took the charge of Boston Red Sox, he put the team on the winning track, helping it win the first World Series title after almost 80 years.
The Cubs, at the same time, have not won any World Series title for over 90 years. It remains to be seen if he achieves the same milestone while being at the helm of affairs.
