Theo Janssen believes Ajax Amsterdam are title contenders – Dutch Eredivisie news
Ajax Amsterdam’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Janssen-c34871 is looking forward to start of the 2011/12 campaign. The midfielder believes that his side have the strongest selection and is looking confident to help his side successfully defend the Eredivisie title.
The 29-year-old arrived at Amsterdam Arena earlier in the ongoing summer transfer market from FC Twente Enschede. The veteran midfielder played an important role for the Tukkers in their two back-to-back successful seasons. He represented the outfit from Enschede in 86 matches and scored 18 goals during his three-season stay at De Grolsch Veste.
The midfield ace revealed that PSV Eindhoven’s performances would certainly be affected with the departure of Balazs Dzsudzsak, who joined http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Anzhi-Makhachkala-c39068 recently. Furthermore, he expects his former club to compete for the title again in the upcoming season.
“With the departure of Dzsudzsak, PSV would certainly lack the creativity in the midfield. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dries-Mertens-c11679 is a good replacement, but I assess Dzsudzsak higher for his goal scoring ability. I expect that Twente would again compete for the title. However, the midfield will look different, as I am no longer a part of the club. I expect that Co Adriaanse would develop a good team”, Janssen was quoted as saying to the media.
The veteran midfielder then went on to reveal that the title hunt would be between PSV, Twente and Ajax, but Ajax remain the strongest side in the player’s opinion.
“It will be between Ajax, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233. When I put all three together, we have the strongest selection. So we know what to do”, the Dutch International concluded.
The Amsterdammers’ primary objective next season would be to perform highly in the UEFA Champions League and successfully defend the Eredivisie title. However, with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 FC, Manchester United and AC Milan also competing, their chances of achieving European glory look farfetched.
The newly crowned Dutch champions have also successfully added http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Derk-Boerrigter-c10972 and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson to their ranks in the ongoing summer transfer market. Should the Amsterdammers manage to hold on to their star performers from the 2010/11 season, they certainly have a good chance to compete successfully in Dutch top tier and in Europe as well.
