Theo Peckham signs a contract with Edmonton Oilers of NHL for the fourth time
Canadian defenseman, Theo Peckham, signed a one-year contract with Edmonton Oilers for $1.075 million, exactly the same amount for which he had signed last year.
This is the fourth time that Peckham has signed for Alberta, Canada based side and this is the third time in a row that the contract was signed for just one-year.
When Theo Peckham was asked about the deal, he clarified that that he is just focussing on the hockey and nothing else. He has no problems with signing the one-year deal again and a contract with Edmonton Oilers for fourth time. His exact words were,
“I’m happy to get it over with, I’m the kind of guy that just wants to play hockey and not really deal with the business side of it. This is my fourth contract negotiation with the Oilers, I think, so you kind of get used to it and know what to expect. It’s
not the quickest process in the world, so it’s good to get it over with and now I can just focus on hockey.”
24-year-old’s inclusion also meant that Oilers now have another defenseman added on their roster, even when they already have many.
Oilers have 37-year-old veteran and most experienced of all, Andy Sutton, Nick Schultz, Justin Schultz, who has just completed an entry-level deal, and four players who are equally tall at four 6-foot-3, Jeff Petry, Corey Potter, Ladislav Smid and Ryan Whitney.
Peckham’s contract, being for just one-year, also indicates that he is not guaranteed a place in the Oilers side very easily and he is not exactly a part of their long term planning. He will have to face a strong competition with all of the defensemen mentioned
above.
Along with having to fight for a place in the starting line-up and the team by improving the quality of his play and performance, which he is ready to do anyways.
The native of Richmond Hill, Ontario, is also determined to earn a long term deal by availing this chance as he said,
“It’s a chance to earn that three- or four-year deal.”
