Theo Walcott apologises for diving
Arsenal's fiery winger and England international http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Walcott-c34873, has gone ahead and apologized for diving in the team's clash with Leeds United.
The winger came on in the second half, as a substitute to try and help turn things around, as Arsenal were trailing by one goal to nil to Leeds. However, the player went on to attempt a dive to try and win a spot-kick for the home-side. Fortunately though, the players attempt ended in vain as the referee spotted the dive.
However, a minute later, Walcott was tugged in the Leeds area and this time around the referee awarded Arsenal with a penalty kick, which helped the team tie things up on the night and end the game with one goal a piece.
Walcott though, has come-forth and stated that he has wasn't proud of what he did/attempted to do and as a result has gone ahead and given a public apology for his actions.
The player is reported to have said: "I want to apologise to the managers because I actually dived. I was trying to win the penalty.
"I said to one of their players 'would you have done it?' and he said he probably would have.
Walcott then went on to state how in the modern game, if a player was even slightly touched, he would go down. However the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international feels that the result of an act like this could go both ways. The referee could either award the player with a free-kick, which would be extremely unfortunate for the opposing team, or he could spot his bluff and award him with a card for his efforts.
The player then went on to add: "It was one of those things. I am not happy with myself for doing that, but I am happy that we got the draw.
"I had a little joke with the referee afterwards saying 'that was my first dive, can you tell?'
Clearly, the young winger feels apologetic about his actions and considering the fact that his failed effort at diving didn't really result in anything, Walcott could and most probably would be forgiven by everyone, this time around.
