Theo Walcott predicts trophy wins for Arsenal
Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has predicted a bright future for his club after they thumped fellow English Premier League side Newcastle United 4-0 in the League Cup on Wednesday, 27 October.
Walcott netted twice in the Gunners’ second big win in four days following their 3-0 win over Manchester City at the weekend. Nicklas Bendtner also scored while the ball bounced off the back of Newcastle keeper Tim Krul’s head for an unfortunate own goal.
England international Walcott was asked by a reporter for Sky Sports if the current Arsenal team was the best he had played in. He replied that: "We have some fantastic players [that] I train with every day. Our attacking players are very flair [sic]. We
love to counter attack, we've got loads of pace and strength upfront. It's just great options we've got across the whole squad."
Walcott, who has been with the North London club since moving from Southampton in January 2006, has yet to win a medal with the club and is determined to help Arsenal end a trophy drought which stretches back to the FA Cup success in 2005.
He said that: "We want to win trophies and look back on our careers and the amount of trophies that we've won. It's none at the moment, but I'm sure if we play football like that there'll be many more to come."
Arsene Wenger tells players to bring home silverware
Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has challenged his players to go on and achieve success in all four competitions — the EPL, League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.
He told Sky Sports that: “I said to the players we will go for everything we can, as simple as that. And not really specifying one more than the other one that's why I believe we are on a good run and we want to keep that going. It's important to keep it
moving no matter what competition it is. That's what we want to do.”
