Question:

Theoretically sparking a spark plug?

Ive recently taken to making potato cannons, and to make this as safe as I can I have decided to not drill any holes anywhere in the piping. so for an ignition source I inserted a standard BBQ ignitor. my worries is that eventually the plastic ignitor will break and become useless from the heat and the pressure. I have come up with a theory but i am not sure if it could work. as we know spark plugs are designed to withstand the heat and pressure of the engine so i want to adapt it for an ignition for my guns

If i take a 100,000 volt stun gun, and attach it to a spark plug that is inserted into the cleaning cap would that create a spark?

  1. you bet..i have a cannon and have gone through 5 BBQ sparkers in 7 yrs

  2. It is unnecessary, I have built many potato cannons and have always used BBQ igniters and they hold up fine. You will not need anything more than that, also a tip for your propellant I loved aqua net hairspray it wouldnt leave too much moisture in the combustion chamber as a lot of other fuels I used did, which resulted in a pretty bad fire blowback that really burned all the hair off my face which really sucked, but anyways that will be just fine no need to over complicate it, Good Luck!
