Question:

Theoretically why baseball and not 20-20 in the Olympics?

Dear Friends of the cricket section,

Why not if it is popular and fills the time slots?

I cannot recall having read that Baseball was played by ancient Greeks.

Good comparisons would be:

1. demographics,

2. format

There could be other comparisons that I cannot think of right now, but, I'm sure some of the very intelligent users here might illustrate additional comparisons.

News: Cuba beat USA to enter the finals in baseball (the great American past-time has long been baseball). Being cricket fans from many Commonwealth countries what is your reaction, or maybe no comments?

Thank you

  1. Hopefully Cricket will be included, though I heard that Baseball will be removed after the Beijing Olympics.

  2. Bhai,

I think Cricket is an under-rated game (as America doesn't play it). Though we know how good this game is, being the followers of this great sport. I think it can't be ignored for too long & eventually will make it to the Olympics.

The T20 format has been only introduced recently as we know so now Cricket can present a strong contention for its inclusion as this format is not that time consuming. I'm hoping for 20-20 to be introduced in Olympics in the year 2020. That would be perfect & maybe a start of a new era of revolution!

Surprisingly South Korea has won gold, US settles with bronze.

PS- Baseball is out of the 2012 Olympics!!

Your other part about its comparison with cricket-

I think cricket involves a lot more versatility. Maybe a few similarities like a home-run in baseball is like hitting a 6 in cricket & other than the involvement of a bat & ball, rules are totally opposite, & "technique" is a huge difference when you compare the bowling/ batting departments of these 2 sports!
