  1. Montessori was started by Maria Montessori hence the name.  The Montessori approach was also based on other theorists Piaget, Vygotsky, etc, but was solely devoloped and interpreted by Maria Montessori.

  2. Montessori is pretty much a theory on its own developed by Maria Montessori. It has links to Susan Isaac in some ways though-and Susan Isaac has links with Froebl, Dewey, Piaget and Freud so if you look into them you may be able to establish some similarities that you can link yourself.

    Good Luck

  3. Montessori was a medical doctor in Italy around the turn of the 20th century. When she was working in an institution for mentally deficient individuals she was exposed to "idiot" children. While others condemned the actions of the children as they groveled on the floor for crumbs of food, she observed their behavior carefully and discovered that they were actually manipulating the crumbs.

She then studied some of the educationalists of that time, including Itard and Seguin. She also followed the philosophy of Rousseau in the belief that children are inherently good.

Piaget was a student of Montessori's.
