Thepchaiya Un-Nooh beats Muhammad Asif in semi-final of 7-Nation Snooker Championship
Current Pakistan National Snooker Champion, Faisalabad’s Muhammad Asif was not able to play up to the mark and dropped down against Thailand’s Thepchaiya Un-Nooh by an easy score line of 6-2 in the second semi-final event of 2012 Jubilee Insurance 7-Nation
International Snooker Championship at the Pearl Continental Hotel arena in Karachi, Pakistan.
Muhammad Asif was confident before he entered the arena to play against comparatively experienced potter who has competed on the international level in major tournaments, Despite that, Asif was the only hope left for the hoist country to keep the title but
he failed to perform according to the hopes of the Pakistani people and tumbled down by 6-2.
Un-Nooh, on the other hand, was one of the favourite potters to clinch the title. The Thai potter performed consistently throughout the tournament to make his way into the final spot. He was up against his fellow countryman, Noppon Saengkham in the quarter-final
where he stormed into a whitewash triumph by the score line of 5-4 to set up a Muhammad Asif semi-final competition.
Un-Nooh dominated the game in the very first session and grabbed a five-frame early in the game. The first scrappy frame was a bit tussling at the start but Asif missed on a simple red to allow Un-Nooh come at the table and win the Frame 1 by 85-43 to lead
1-0 in the game. Asif came back into the game at the beginning of Frame 2 but missed again and Un-Nooh cleaned the baize at 55-44 to extend his lead by 2-0.
The third frame seemed an easy victory for Un-Nooh as the 34-year-old Asif failed to make an impact this time and slipped three frames down at 3-0. The Pakistan National Number one, Asif, had a good chance to capitalise but he failed to improvise and Un-Nooh
took the fourth frame by surprise with an easy score line of 89-13.
The match seemed to have slipped out of Asif’s hands when Un-Nooh snatched the fifth set win by 73-53 to stretch his lead at 5-0. At this point of the game, Asif seemed to have lost his hopes but the Pakistani focused his game and gained back-to-back frames
to move within two frames up at 5-2. He fired a superb knock of 136 in the seventh frame which is the maximum break so far.
However, Un-Nooh needed only one frame to win the game which he grabbed in the very next game play and booked the final match spot against Iran’s Hossein Vafaei Ayouri.
