Thepchaiya Un-Nooh wins over Noppon Saengkham in quarter-final: 2012 7-Nation Snooker Championship
Last all-Thailand quarter-final of 2012 Jubilee Insurance 7-Nation International Snooker Championship between Thepchaiya Un-Nooh and Noppon Saengkham was a close call where Un-Nooh dominated his compatriot and clinched the victory by 5-4.
The all-Thailand quarter-final clash ended in a decider frame after a superb game play from both potters who were struggling to book the semi-final spot.
Un-Nooh, being comparatively senior and a professionally experienced cueman, dominated the game in the end. However, he surely had a tough time against Saengkham but still managed to hit the winner’s spot.
The 19-year-old Saengkham dominated the first half of the match with impressive snooker display at the Pearl Continental Hotel arena in Karachi, Pakistan.
Un-Nooh struggled in the first session and went three frames down instantly when Saengkham showed his snooker genius. On the other hand, the second half of the game saw Un-Nooh bouncing back into the game to claim the victory by 5-4.
The 26-year-old Un-Nooh drew the first blood with a classy frame win by 70-64, despite the fact that the first set was quite scrappy and he had to come strong at the table to beat Saengkham.
After the first frame ended, Saengkham took control over the table and triumphed in the next three frames by 0-82, 25-56 and 8-91 to snatch the match lead at 1-3 with the help of some decent snooker knocks.
The World Number 78, Un-Nooh underwent immense pressure but did not lose his focus at all. He responded to Saengkham in the same fashion taking three consecutive frame wins by the scores of 80-50, 104-0 and 98-09. He fires some excellent clearances of 60,
71, 104 and 66 to reach 4-3 in the match and make his position strong in the match.
The eighth frame finished in favour of Saengkham as he cruised into 4-4 level after potting a fine knock. With Saengkham’s eighth frame victory, the match moved into the decisive frame where the competition became close.
However, Un-Nooh showed his class in the end and swept the table beautifully to win the frame by 65-6 and hit the semi-final spot against the current Pakistani National Champion, Muhammad Asif. Asif reached the semis after ousting India’s Yasin Merchant
easily by 5-3.
