There's HOW MANY eggs???

So, I have been trying to conceive for two years now. Did my first cycle of Clomid earlier this month. Went in last Friday to have a sono to see if I was ovulating yet. The Dr. told me that there were 4 good sized "almost" matured follicles, 2 on each ovary. Went back today for another scan & all 4 follicles are no longer there - I've ovulated. 3 ovulation tests show positive.

So, 4 follicles - does that mean 4 eggs; one from each? As in 4 babies???? What does it mean?????

  1. I think that is four eggs but that does not mean all four were fertilized.  Try to remember to ask the doctor those questions before you leave.

  2. In your life time your body will release about 400 eggs. You get 1 egg every month released. Sometimes your body messes up and releases 2 (1 from each ovary) and thats how nonidentical twins are born (like brother and sister who are twins but dont look alike). When twins, triplets, etc form what happens is 1 egg splits into 2 and thats how you get identical twins.

If you take fertility drugs then sometimes more eggs develop for better chance of having 1 baby. So it sounds as though you have 4 potential eggs which could yes make 4 babies but most likely only 1 will become a baby.
