Question:

There's a baby bird in my fireplace, help?!!?

I believe there is a nest of small birds on the top of my chimney and this morning I heard one yelping in my fireplace... The bird is clung to the wall of it and won't let go. It's just a baby and appears that it doesn't know how to fly... Is it calling out for its mother? I want to help it but every time I try to take it out it clings even harder and screams louder. If I take it out and let it go I'm afraid it won't be able to survive, and our roof is far too high for any ladder to reach. If I leave it there I'm afraid it will die...and its mother won't come.

I need advice on what to do please help??

  1. you should probably get professional help for this. but, If you can get to the birds use gloves to move the entire nest to some safer place, the calls will atract the parents.

USE GLOVES- if you dont the babies will smell like human and the parents will not take care of them.

  2. Light the fire.

  3. Phone animal control. they won't hurt the birds they'll just help them and don't worry cos they'll be safe.

  4. If it has feathers it has a chance of survival if you can move it outside and release it near the nest. It is normal for baby birds to have very poor flying skills when they first leave the nest. Place it in a sheltered spot, and leave it alone.

Handle it firmly but gently and, as has been said already, wear gloves.

If it has no feathers it has probably fallen from the nest and its chances of survival are slim unless it gets specialist help. In this case it might be best to take it to a vet for euthanasia.
