There's a baby possum in the house!?

We have had a baby possum somewhere in the house for around a week. It comes out at night to get the cat's food. We're not sure it can get back out and we definitely don't want to hurt it. How can we lure it out and catch it without either of us getting hurt?

Baby possums found without their mother should come into care if they are to survive.  Juvenile possums may venture short distances from their mothers so you will need to observe the possum to see if their mother is close by.  Young Brushtail Possum may be independent from their mother at 800g and a Ringtail Possum at 350g.  If in any doubt, please ask for an experienced possum carer to observe the animal and assess the situation.

It is advisable to wear leather or thick gloves when handling a possum.

Do not lift a possum from under its front legs like a baby.  Always have their full bodyweight supported by one hand under their rear and another holding them upright but slightly curled around the chest cavity.

got to a Tractor Supply Co.  store and but a havahart live animal trap and put some meat in it or if the cat food works try that and in the morning put leather gloves on and release it

we had this same problem ,except there was more than one. there were two. the mother and the baby. we didnt want to hurt it either so we went to the cardware store and bought a cage for catching possums. we brought it home and my husband put beef jerky in there. when  the possum went in to get it the door went down behind him. not hurting the possum at all. we tok him out in the woods and dropped him off. he ran away never to be seen again. p.s i meant hardware store.  sorry

call your nearest animal shelter, or zoo. worse comes to worse,call pest contol, let them know you dont want to kill it. i have met pest guys that certain animals they just dont kill if there is not need to.
