There's a long white strand hanging out the back of my sisters red-eared slider. What could this be?

My sister has a young red-eared slider and she called me telling me it has a white strand of something hanging out of his a**s. She says he's acting normal otherwise, so far. I have a slider of my own and can't find a related symptom online? Is this a parasitic infection? Can someone tell me what it is?

  1. Turtles (like most animals) can have intestinal worms. Over time, worms can expend a lot of the turtle's energy to feed them. Some worms may be found protruding from the vent of a turtle. Fecal samples can be checked by the caretaker or a vet and a dewormer prescribed.

**Fungus does not come out their r****m like a thread it appears in patches that look like cotton on the neck and arms etc etc .

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& Its not fungus, if the white things is not probably a string.

Tell you sis to pull on it..as long as the white thing is not alive.

Its hard to say what could have dropped in his tank.

  2. i have a book about them and ive read it in the sickness and health section. and heres something it might be(heres wat it says:)fungus/fungal infections.   ocassionally you may see wat looks like a light layer or cotton on your slider's shell this problem is more commen with aquatic turtles.particualy young.chances are that  it is some form of fungus and allthough somewhat alarming in apperence it can usually be treated with full expections of recovery unless of course for some reason it has been allowed to spread across most of the body in which case the animal should be handed to a vet in the hobbyist's home, you can  treat the problem by immersing the slider in salt water bath(remember to keep the water warm)for about a half hour each day. furthermore your can actully give your turtles a "bath" in the same soulution and utilize a soft sponge gentley scrubbing the infected regions this method may speed recovery slightley as long as the problem is not severe you should witness the first stages of recovery within a day or two and full recovery in about 10 days to a week.  i hope this helps email me for anything else!!!! -jadaice2007@yahoo.com

  3. i have to agree with peek here, it does look like a parasitic worm, you need to get the turtles f***s checked by a vet for a worm infestation and then treat the turtle with a de wormer
