There's a mouse eating through a bag of chips. What should I do with it? Don't think I can kill it...?

I was thinking of grabbing the top of the bag, taking it outside, stepping on the opening of the bag so it can't get out, and somehow smashing the mouse. You know, stomp on it, baseball bat, sledgehammer...but I want to be sure I'd kill it right away, which I'm not sure I'd do, and I really don't want to have to look in the bag and see if it's dead. I'm all for the natural order of things, but a humane skull-crushing is still going to look pretty gross, and I have breakfast to keep down.

I was going to take it across the road and dump it in the back yard of a house that's been on sale forever. I've seen the owners occasionally come back with bags from the hardware store, talking about rodents, so I figure they have traps. I'm leaving in a few hours and won't be back for at least two weeks, so I can't set a trap and catch it. I'm going to set up some poison anyway, but since I have this one now, I'd like to get rid of it.

  1. Put it next door.  If you have this option, spare yourself the nagging bad feelings you'll have for crushing the innocent creature.

  2. i had the same problem, i caught the rat but couldn't kill it . i just let it go at a park a few blocks away. letting it go across the street really does sound like a practical way of getting rid of your problem

  3. Wrap an rubber band around the top to trap it and then run it over with a car. Then you know it died quickly.

  4. Tape the bag up, then throw it in the trash. Or if you can stomach it, dump the contents of the bag (rodent and all) into the toilet & flush it! Rats can swim but not mice!

    Good Luck!
