My sister and i noticed a stench in her room. we thought it was a skunk so we went to let our dogs inside and right when we opened the door, my dog was throwing up. It was kind of a foamy throw up. We're really worried about her and what the stench might mean. any ideas what it could be.

  1. Well I'd say that if the dogs are smelly and foaming out of the mouth like that its possible they were squirted in eyes by a skunk and if it stinks like a skunk.. My dog got caught by a skunk last summer, and OMG I felt so horrible for her cause she was squirted directly in the face....

Thankfully Haven't had any skunks close this season.. best of luck..

  2. Was the color of the vomit yellow?

Foamy, yellow vomit is usually bile, which is a sign that your dog has an empty stomach. Giving her some plain, cooked white rice may help settle her stomach. Don't give her anything like treats or people food for the time being, just a cup or two of plain white rice to help her out.

If it was just a white, foamy mucous then that is more of a 'cough up' than a vomit. Something was irritating her and perhaps she needed to choke it up. If it continues on through the night, then something is wrong.

Is she showing any other symptoms of being ill? Not acting herself, diarrhea, lethargy, labored breathing, anxious, etc? If so, then perhaps something more is wrong and it might be worth it to call the vet.

For right now, give her some rice, make sure she is drinking water (very important if a dog is vomiting or having loose stool-you don't want them to get dehydrated!), keep her calm, and keep an eye on her. If she appears to get worse, call the vet. If she doesn't get worse, but isn't seeming to be any better by tomorrow afternoon, then take note of all of her symptoms and call the vet.

Hopefully, however, whatever it was that was upsetting her stomach has been vomited up and she will be feeling okay soon. Some rice, TLC, and a watchful eye are what she needs right now! Hope she feels better soon!

  3. Just a thought but you might go look in your sisters room for what the smell might be. Your dog may have eaten some grass because its stomic is upset. Thats only a guess. If he keeps throwing up and will not eat or drink you need to get him to the Vet.

  4. don't know what it would be but I would take the dog to vet and have it checked out soon (just my opinion )

  5. The dog could have bit or caught a toad or frog.  Certain toads are poisonous to dogs, namely the Colorado River Toad, found in Southwestern states from Arizona to Southern California, and the Giant Brown Toad (also known as Marine Toads, Cane Toads or Bufo Toads) found in South Texas and Florida.  Drooling, head shaking, pawing at the mouth, crying, and attempting to vomit are some symptoms that a pet has had contact with these toads. Symptoms of toad poisoning in dogs can include heavy drooling, head-shaking, vomiting, diarrhea, bright red gums, weakness, loss of coordination, fever, irregular heartbeat, difficult breathing, tightly clamped jaws, convulsions, and even death.

She may have also scared a skunk (thus the skunk odor).  It might be a good idea to take the dog to the vet and have him checked to be on the safe side.
