There's a rodent in the house

Question

there is something eating at my fruit bowl at night, it's either a rat, mouse or possum. i can't smell mice and there aren't any droppings so i'm thinking its just one. i hope it isn't a rat what should i do!!? and where would it be hiding?

If you might have a possum in you house you do not know about, you have a cleaning problem far beyond any suggestions I might offer.  For mice or rats I suggest a have-a-heart live trap.  If you have a feed store they may loan you one or you can look up have-a-heart on the Internet.

Call Animal Control or buy some of those traps with the doors if you don't want to kill the animal.

Put out the traps around the house. There are different types from the old spring to the stick bait type. If you are into it there are other humane ways of getting the animal - you can search the internet and it will tell you the different methods. Then you need to look and find what openings you have within your home that the critter is coming in through - then have it sealed.

There is also that ultrasonic device that plugs into the wall - I am not sure how effective it is. I did try it in an old apartment that i had that was backed up to the woods. I used a trap / sealed the openings with steel wool / and the ultrasonic device.
