  1. This is what you have to have....

    1. A problem... ANY problem or question.

    2.  Your hypothesis is an informed guess as to what will solve your problem.... or an answer to your question.  Science fair judges like for you to phrase your hypothesis as an "If...... then"  statement.

        EXAMPLE:

Question:  Do teachers trust girls more than boys?

Hypothesis:  If a girl and a boy both gave the same excuse for not having their homework, then teachers would believe the girls more often than the boys.

Experiment:  This has to test your hypothesis... it has to be measureable too.  An experiment for the hypothesis above could be finding 20 really good students who always do their homework.  After getting permission from your principal, have the students pretend not to have their homework all on the same day - but with different teachers.  Have every student give the same excuse and record the teacher's response.

Gathering Data:   Recording the teacher's responses would be gathering your data.

Analyze your Data:  Make charts and graphs comparing which students were given favorable responses vs those given unfavorable responses.  Record whether the teacher was male or female.

Conslusion:  Was your hypothesis correct?  Do you need to perform an additional experiments?  If your hypothesis was incorrect,  is there anything you CAN conclude from your experiment.

    Pick something that interests you.....

How often are the TV meteorologists correct?

Are the claims made in that TV commercial really true?

Sooooo...... you can pick any question or problem for which you can design an experiment.  HAVE FUN!!!!   This doesn't have to be a chore.
