Question:

There's a weird switch on the bottom of my laptop... It's a Compaq Presario?

It's one of those sliding ones... But you have to use a lot of force to make it go to the other side (I've never done it, since I don't know what it would do)

It's by the battery (I'm pretty sure it's the battery), and it has a icon of a battery with one little bar left on it... Like, it's part of the laptop.

It's really annoying me, since I can't figure out what it is...

  1. Yes. It sounds like the battery release latch. If you run the HP Total Care Advisor (Start/Programs/HP Total Care), then select PC Help, you'll see User's Guides on the right. Click on that.

    Double-click on Notebook Tour.

    Double-Click on Hardware.

    Double-Click on Components.

    Finally, Click on Bottom Components.

You'll see a picture with all of the items on the bottom of your PC there.

If you want to know how to take out the battery, scroll down the list of users guides to Power Management.

    Double-click on Using Battery Power.

Click on Inserting or Removing the Battery

If you no longer have the HP Total Care Advisor on your PC, you can view the manual on-line at:

    http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/supp...

Click on the button marked "See Support and Troubleshooting Info"

Key in the model of your PC (or click on Start Detection).

Then select Manuals, and then Notebook Tour.

If you're wondering what all of the other buttons and latches and doors are on your PC, these manuals are a great place to start.
