I was told that England's flag was up in Australia, similar to what happened in (not sure) China or Hong Kong, and finally the England Flag was removed for good...Now Australia, or am I behind on history of where the England Flags are held up...Do you follow me?

  1. Apart from the British embassy, I don't know of anywhere in Australia where the English flag flies.

What I think you *might* be referring to is that the Australian flag itself includes the Union Jack in the top left corner. There are groups of people in Australia who would like to see the flag changed to one without the Union Jack, but there are currently no official plans to make that change.

  2. No we don't follow you, but here's my thoughts anyway.  The only time I've seen another flag in Sydney is when "important" international people come over for meetings and what-not.  If they are *that* important I have seen hotels put the flag of the nation that the important person is from.......but there isn't always a flag up.

  3. The English flag in not in the corner of ours... I think you mean the Union Jack, the flag of the United Kingdom. The Union Jack was on the flag of Hong Kong before 1997 because it was a British colony, just like Australia was, but we chose to keep ours. It's not just the British flag, it is ours as well because it is in our national flag that means it is ours not belonging to the UK. The UK flag is the same but it takes up the entire flag. and nobody wants it changed.

I think you need a lesson on how to string a paragraph together because that is just Terrible.

  4. I'm not quite sure what your are asking, but will give it a shot anyhow.

The Australian flag has the English Union Jack flag in the upper left hand corner.  While there have been various groups wanting to update our national flag,  we have not chosen to change it yet.   The Union will stay for the time being.

The only time the Union Jack flag would ever be flown would be during official visits by British government dignitaries or at international events.  It possibly also might be used on Royal visits by our head of state - Queen Elizabeth II.    In normal every day use Australia and Australians would not use the British flag.  We have our own National and State flags which are much better suited to our loyalty to our own country.

  5. Iskander is right (don't know who gave the thumbs down!) It is the British flag, not the English (the English is the St Geroges cross which is a white background with red cross on it) Easily confused as many English people wave it at sports events featuring England! (much to the digust of the Scots!)
