  1. You can start by making a positive change in your own life.  You can personally sacrifice in some aspect of your life for the overall good of the country.

For example, you can decide to ride your bike to your friend's house instead of asking a parent to drive you there.

And, you can attempt to cajole your family and friends to contribute at some level.  The best way to influence your friends is to lead by your own example.

If they see you doing good work, a few of them may follow.

To me, we must realize that we can be positive influences for positive change, rather than negative reinforcers of the status quo.

  2. You are watching too much TV.

Do you ever think of why the life expectancy has gone up from about 50 years to about 80 years in the past few decades?  Maybe because we are wealthier, freer, healthier than ever before in the history of the world.  You have a computer, and you are linked to (potentially) any other person on the face of the earth.  This capacity is new within the past 10 years.  Third world countries are growing steadily wealthier, and the human race has finally moved beyond the hardscrabble scratch and claw to survive day to day that marked humanity for the past 120,000 years.  Most people until now lived horribly short, painful, cruel lives.  The standard of living (global) is better than it has ever been in human history.  It has only been one (ONE) lifetime ago when we did NOT have vaccinations, antibiotics, or open heart surgery....at ALL.  People lived and died with virtually no health care at all.  When I was growing up, I had no refrigerator, no bathroom, no car, no telephone....things are different now.  All you know as a young child is luxury.  Luxury, wealth, technology....and fearmongering.

However, you are correct...there are many problems in the world.  I hate to bring this up, but the problem is you.  It is also me.  It is people being greedy, selfish, cruel, and sinful.  You can't change the world.  You can only change yourself.  Don't vote for the candidate who promises you the most goodies.  Don't expect handouts.  Don't go shopping at Hollister.  Don't drink bottled water.  Don't consume, consume, consume.  Don't blame "the government" because the government is YOU.  So stop worrying.  Stop watching the hatemongers, fearmongers, US bashers, and greed pushers on TV.

  3. You sound overwhelmed...take a deep breath & prioritize what cause you might like to work on, then pick an organization & volunteer.  It makes everything feel  more manageable.

Good luck to you.  Hope to see you on the ballot someday:-)
