But be honest. Would you really prefer to have to put up with the likes of George Bush and d**k Cheney? At least the royal family doesn't have any real power. They are fairly benign when you look at it. You can't say that about Bush and Cheney.

yes, no doubt one of the wealthiest women (if not the wealthiest) is "fairly beinign" and has no real power. surely, you are joking..how do you think the royals got their money? by hard work, and sweat and blood and tears, like the rest of us? no, not hardly, they stole all their billions, generation after generation, from hard working British people, all for the pleasure of the Royal Family...As far as Bush/Cheney go, at least they were elected and as of next year will be out of office, the royal family will continue to bleed dry, the British people of their hard earned money for many generations to come. while the poor of the world, continue to become ill, starve and die,  her royal Highness will continue her "blue blood" existence and finger her precious jewels and watch her fortune grow. The royals are an integral part of British history. its too bad they werent made past history as well. more of the idle rich. bullocks!

i am glad we decided not to have kings and queens here in America. your royals are powerless as you say because the ceded a lot of their power in the past. what is stopping them from reclaiming what is theirs?
