There's this one class that I don't have any friends in - band?

Yup. Band. It was the first day of school today, so we didn't have assigned seating, and I walked into the classroom and just didn't know where to sit. Everybody in that class is a grade older than me, and they all know each other really well, friendship groups and such have already been formed. I don't want to dread going to band everyday, but everyone already has the impression that I'm socially awkward and I don't know how to change that and not be such a loner. Ideas?

Talk to everyone and try to be yourself. If they're not losers, they'll be your friend. But, if they think they're too cool to be talking to someone that's a grade younger, then they're not even worth it anyway. (:

in most of my classes i'm alone without friends this year the best thing to do is say hey to someone who u have something in common with same instrument maybe or even the same section is a start though or even just ask what instrument they play and chances are no one noticed if you were socially awkward because ur not on there radar yet if they don't no you then they don't care if your awkward or not yet

EASY!  Be yourself, don't sweat people you won't have to deal with after school and be the best in your row!  It is hard get a bunch of junk from a bunch of mid level or lower players so work hard at being the best!  good luck.

Well don't worry man.

A lot of people experience this type of stuff including me.

Just do what you usually do.

Eventually you will make friends.

Seriously though, just be yourself.
