and they multiply every minute. In exactly 1 hour,the jar is full,

how long would pass before the jar is half full?

  1. 59 minutes ,  if it doubles every minute , then take 1 minute away from the total number of minutes to get half , yes , is that right , it has to be.

  3. Assume that the volume occupied by a bacterium doubles when the bacterium divides into daughter cells.  At time t = 0 (the start), you have two cells.  If they all double into daughter cells synchronously, then the volume doubles with each period of time.

    Since the jar is full in one hour, and they multiply every 60 seconds (1 minute), then the previous minute, minute 59, the jar would have been half as full.

    Thus, it takes 59 minutes for the jar to be half full.
