You are wrong.Horse slaughter has now been illegal in the United States for awhile now.There are still the slaughter plants,but they have been closed up.It is still legal in Mexico,and other countries,but not the U.S

Its you who needs to get your facts straight. Slaughter of horses are illegal in the USA.

Im sure there are places that still do slaughter them, and will be caught soon. And then most horses are being shipped to mexico or some other country where it is illegal. So instead of changing the law to where it is humanly done here, now they have to travel much longer with out food or water, just to be killed un humanly.

So get your facts straight before you start saying you know more then us.

And i would much rather see a horse humanly put down, then to see him suffer throught out his whole life, and then killed or die from starvation or dehadration.

Yes i know there are rescure barns. But there are too many horses and not many are tacking them in.

Now all the horses that arent trained and no one will buy them are being set free to feed themselves, and find water for themselves. ANd end up dieng because they cant.

Second, you poorly edumacated girl, there are NO more slaughter houses open in the U.S. There haven't been for quite sometime now.

Wow, I've only been a member here for a little over a week and have literally seen this same EXACT question, (Which isn't ever actually a question, but a wild uninformed RANT) asked over 5 times.

Here's some information for ya hun... Horse slaughter is a necessity in the world we live in today. Like it or not, we NEED it! There are thousands of horses a year that are being neglected and starved to death because jackasses like you think that you're doing the right thing by not sending them to slaughter.

Slaughter's inhumane? Well what do you think about leaving a horse locked in a mud and S**t filled pasture with no food or water for months because your ignorant a$$ doesn't have the money for upkeep but doesn't have the "heart" to send them away to slaughter?! That kind of thing happens ALL the time.

How bout this, you can dish out the money to either keep these horses or humanely euthanize them, cause darlin' that's the ONLY way it's going to happen. Don't have enough money? Of course not. So what makes you think anyone else does?!

Educate yourself before you start blurting out nonsense and making yourself look like a complete moron.

Actually young lady you know less about slaughter than most of us and certainly less than people like myself who has been to several slaughter houses.

I am tired of silly people talking about how horse slaughter needs to be stopped before they have come up with a plan for all the unwanted horses in the US.  And don't be downright stupid and say there is not a surplus.  That is what the terrorist organization known as PETA tries to pull.  Yet look at how many animals PETA kills every year.  It numbers in the thousands.  Don't believe me?  LOOK IT UP!  

If you want to stop horse slaughter and abuse then come up with a solution that is fair to everyone or at least as fair as possible to as many people as possible.  Can't do that?  Then keep quiet!

1. it's more humane to slaughter a horse in this country (where we can inforce how and how much it is done) then sending them over seas.... the people who themselves are against horse slaughter in this country say this:

"In 1990 315,000 horses were murdered in slaughter houses in the United States. ... They are driven to the slaughter houses, sometimes more than 1000 miles"

is 1000 miles driving (where we can put limits on how horses are transported) alot shorter then shipping over seas?  the trip to france and japan are alot further with more abuse along the way then 1000 miles and once they're out of our country we have no say in how the animal is treated.

2. if you looked up more recent info point proven:

Good Lord 13 years of wisdom on the slaughter oh oh wait that's salter houses in the usa..... man I bow to your greatness.  Facts straight huh? You want facts let me throw a few at you. when they were still open the Volunteer Equine Advocates I work closely with rescued a mere 134 horses for the entire year. Thos ehorses were adopted out or destroyed if their conditons were too bad. Since the closing of the slaughter houses the VEA has more than tripled it's rescue intake. They have run out of funds and supplies and are having to euthanize horses on a daily basis b/c they just can't find enought adopters to take them in. Last count (2 weeks ago) we have 89 horses on one farm we use and 54 on another.... this is only June and we have had reports of other starving horses needing rescueing. We can't go get them and neither can any of the other rescues within 100 mile sof us b/c we are so booked full. Had those slaughter houses been open we wouldn't have this problem. I used to be comepletely against slaughter until i GREW UP and stopped playing with MY LITTLE PONIES and WORKED WITH a RESCUE and realized what a GOOD thing they can actually be. All these starving horses you see in pastures or even ones dumped on the side of the rd.... I blame all you tree hugging, noninformed idiotic peata people like yourself for it. I suggest YOU get YOUR facts staright before calling people out on an issue such as slaughter which really should be for ADULTS to discuss. Go play with your beryers , grand champions or my little ponies. Ya know...I think there ARE a salter houses still open.  We have one in the next town over...THEY MAKE THE BEST JERKY!!!!

And I KNOW there is one near Salt Lake City, because I used to live near there.  The collect up salt all year long to use on the roads when they get icy.

yeah, your wrong. trust me, ive done a s**+* load of slaughter research. they closed down horse slaughter in the US, but they still ship OUR horses to Canada and Mexico. It is illegal in the USA to slaughter horses for human comsumption. It is still legal in Canada, Mexico and some other countries. Horses are still bought and sold for slaughter in the USA though, they are simply shipped across the boarder to be killed

Umm...actually all the slaughter in the US were shut down. There are feedlots where horses wait to be shipped to other countries for slaughter, but no horses are actually slaughtered here.

They are all closed down.  Attempts to reopen the Cavel slaughterhouse in Illinois were recently rejected.  Horses from the US are transported south to Mexico or north to Canada

they have no place to go..i'd rather a horse slaughter be around than to see new horse buyers get tricked into buying a wild stallion thats labled "broke" and children end up hurt

about 30 years ago one of my very old and very experienced horse freinds

bought a new horse ...for a weekend she checked it out she rode it and tested it out she showed up unnoticed and rode the horse

wellturns out the horse was drugged daily for 3 daysand when she brought it home it toppled over on top of her and she broke ribs, and arms.. and was put in the hospital and shipped that horse to the slaughter she even checkde to see if the horse was drugged but she said people have been coming ou with new drugs and it gets harder and harder to spot a drugged horse

there are so many stories about really dangerous horses that need to be put down

this is a very touchy subject and needs to be thought about very carefully before any rash oppinions are made

It sounds as if you are concerned about the slaughter of horses, for any reason, correct?  It also sounds as it you have done very little homework when it comes to your facts...yes, there is one or two processing plants still open in the Us, and your objection would be?  Do you have horses?  Have you been in the position of not being able to feed your horses?  What part do you play in the horse industry?  I might also ask, while I am at it, do you eat chicken, lamb, beef, etc, etc, etc....and if so, what is the big difference?  Although the processing plants are not supposed to be for human consumption, I cannot fathom why, nor why they wouldn't also be for animal consumption...do you have any comments on that subject?  I mean, SOME REAL COMMENTS, ones that are spelled correctly so that they can be understood.
