  1. No quick answer unless you know the thickness of each layer.

Even then it would depend where the slate comes from as the density of slate is between 2560kg per cubic metre and 2880kg per cubic metre.

Concrete is in the region of 2400kg per cubic metre for comparison.

  3. This information comes from the website http://www.snookerbilliardspool.co.uk

    Tournament snooker table

These are the tables to have if you have the room, see Room size for tables to check if you have the room required. Slate bed tables are heavy as well from 500 lbs ( 227 kgs) to over 2000 lbs (909 Kgs) for the full blown 12 foot table. The number of legs vary also depending on the length of the table. Up to 8 foot the slate bed tables have just 4 legs, 9 and 10 foot tables have 6 legs, and 11 and full size snooker tables have 8 legs. So that each leg will support approximately 250 lbs (114 kgs). A full size slate bed table however actually occupies a floor in excess of 70 square feet so the average weight per square foot is about 28 lbs 12.5 kgs.

This means most floors will support a slate bed snooker table as the weight is distributed evenly over the 8 legs without the need for special strengthening. Obviously if you have any doubts consult a reputable builder.

Slate bed tables also require professional installation, as it has to be assembled on site. On the full size snooker tables, there are 5 slate blocks usually 1 1/2 inches thick, which gives most of the weight of the table. It's a minor miracle how these slates are joined together so closely the joins do not interfere at all with play.
