Question:

There are black spots in my cat's water bowl?

I poured out his water, and I noticed black spots in the bottom of his water bowl. I think it may be mold, but I'm unsure. I haven't given him his water yet for fear it might hurt him.

Please help, with the summer heat I want to give him his water as fast as possible and make sure it's safe!

  1. Sounds like black mold. I would wash it like crazy with a cup of bleach. Rinse, then rinse again. Dry with towel. Set in the sun to finish.

  2. Are you using a metal dish?  Sometimes they will have black spots in them.  I would suggest using a glass bowl and just changing the water a couple times a day.

  3. get another bowl to put water in and put the old one in the dishwasher.

look on the internet for wat mold looks like.

  4. Wash the bowl every day or at least every week.

  5. It is probably mold...

    to clean use bleach

Then rinse with vinegar or milk to get rid of the bleach smell

    Willie Tattle???  heehee

  6. It is probably just an algae growing in the water. You should wash it out. The algae is harmless, but it is still gross. It could also be fleas. If he has fleas, you should give him some flea medicine. The fleas probably fell off his head into the water bowl, and drowned.

    I hope this helps!

  7. It's just a stray piece of dirt, food or litter.  You should be thoroughly rinsing out the water bowl everyday and putting fresh water in it once or twice a day.  If you see something in the bowl, take it to the sink and wash it, completely dry it out to get out any slime that may be sticking to it, and put fresh water back it and give it back to the cat.

Cats MUST have fresh water available AT ALL TIMES, they NEED the fluid intake.  Please give your cat back it's water, you can make it ill by withholding it.

  8. It's probably mold. Wash it with hot water and soap, and to prevent it from coming back wash his bowl the same way once a week. Is the bowl plastic? You might consider purchasing a glass/ceramic or stainless steel bowl as well.

  9. Just wash the bowl out..

    or buy a new one.

  10. Its most likely mold,i would buy your cat a new water bowl.
