There are known ancient or modern vegetarian communities?

  1. The Bible says that all humans were vegetarians until the great flood. A lot of people take the Bible seriously.

  3. A Buddhist monastery would be both an ancient and a modern vegetarian community.

  4. Modern times have lots of groups that have gone veggie.  Ancient society studies have not revealed any major group that was solely vegitarian.  There are no mayan or egyptian glyphs or sumarian texts or dead sea scrolls, etc. that speak of groups of people going veggie.  There might be some ancient evidence out there but it has not been discovered/published yet.

  5. The Buddhist, Hindu and Jain religious groups. There are no vegan cultures in the history of the world. Generally, it's only linked to religion.
