  1. Well Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman is the closest thing I can think of... it wasn't a film, it was a miniseries, and the book was released as a companion to the miniseries a few weeks later, so that was like a television to book adaptation. 2001: A Space Odyssey was produced in a similar way, with the film and book being written almost simultaneously, then the book version was released shortly after the film version.

  2. Arthur C Clarke's 2001: A Space Odyssey was written as a film, so this could be classed as a film to book adaptation.

  3. The notebook and A walk to remember both nicolas sparks, much better than the films

  4. Alan Dean Foster's version of Alien isn't bad, and I'm sorry, Ellissa, but P. Bride was first published in the early seventies. William Goldman updated the novel after the movie became part of Hollywood legend for spending fifteen years in Development h**l.

  5. "The Princess Bride" if you can find it.
