A Taboo Subject

Although officially Jews have never made up more than five percent of the country's total population, they played a highly disproportionate and probably decisive role in the infant Bolshevik regime, effectively dominating the Soviet government during its early years. Soviet historians, along with most of their colleagues in the West, for decades preferred to ignore this subject. The facts, though, cannot be denied.

Yakov Sverdlov (Solomon) was both the Bolshevik party's executive secretary and -- as chairman of the Central Executive Committee -- head of the Soviet government. Grigori Zinoviev (Radomyslsky) headed the Communist International (Comintern), the central agency for spreading revolution in foreign countries. Other prominent Jews included press commissar Karl Radek (Sobelsohn), foreign affairs commissar Maxim Litvinov (Wallach), Lev Kamenev (Rosenfeld) and Moisei Uritsky.

Lenin himself was of mostly Russian and Kalmuck ancestry, but he was also one-quarter Jewish. His maternal grandfather, Israel (Alexander) Blank, was a Ukrainian Jew who was later baptized into the Russian Orthodox Church.

A thorough-going internationalist, Lenin viewed ethnic or cultural loyalties with contempt. He had little regard for his own countrymen. "An intelligent Russian," he once remarked, "is almost always a Jew or someone with Jewish blood in his veins."

A brief overview by American-Jewish Historian Frank Golder about the large amount of Jewish influence in the Soviet government:

As an expression of its radically anti-nationalist character, the fledgling Soviet government issued a decree a few months after taking power that made anti-Semitism a crime in Russia. The new Communist regime thus became the first in the world to severely punish all expressions of anti-Jewish sentiment. Soviet officials apparently regarded such measures as indispensable. Based on careful observation during a lengthy stay in Russia, American-Jewish scholar Frank Golder reported in 1925 that "because so many of the Soviet leaders are Jews anti-Semitism is gaining [in Russia], particularly in the army [and] among the old and new intelligentsia who are being crowded for positions by the sons of Israel."

Here this part shows the huge jewish presence in the Soviet collectives ( a sort of Communist Kibbutz) in which the Ukranian peasants lost their land and had to work for the collective.  those who refused were killed by the millions.

Immediately after the [Bolshevik] Revolution, many Jews were euphoric over their high representation in the new government. Lenin's first Politburo was dominated by men of Jewish origins

Under Lenin, Jews became involved in all aspects of the Revolution, including its dirtiest work. Despite the Communists' vows to eradicate anti-Semitism, it spread rapidly after the Revolution -- partly because of the prominence of so many Jews in the Soviet administration, as well as in the traumatic, inhuman Sovietization drives that followed. Historian Salo Baron has noted that an immensely disproportionate number of Jews joined the new Bolshevik secret police, the Cheka And many of those who fell afoul of the Cheka would be shot by Jewish investigators.

The collective leadership that emerged in Lenin's dying days was headed by the Jew Zinoviev, a loquacious, mean-spirited, curly-haired Adonis whose vanity knew no bounds.

"Anyone who had the misfortune to fall into the hands of the Cheka," wrote Jewish historian Leonard Schapiro, "stood a very good chance of finding himself confronted with, and possibly shot by, a Jewish investigator." In Ukraine, "Jews made up nearly 80 percent of the rank-and-file Cheka agents," reports W. Bruce Lincoln, an American professor of Russian history. (Beginning as the Cheka, or Vecheka) the Soviet secret police was later known as the GPU, OGPU, NKVD, MVD and KGB.)

I would say Adolf Hitler gave a bad name to Jewish people.  He convinced Germany and many other European countries that eliminating Jewish people is a good thing.  As a result, we have many Jewish people today who hide their Judaism, or if they are Satmars (extreme orthodox) who can easily be singled out in a crowd choose to negate Israel so they will appear to be "good obedient Jews."  This stems from paralyzing fear and insecurity in case history should ever repeat itself.

Norman Finklstien is another perfect example - his parents lived through the holocaust.  Fear is in his veins and that is the reason why, as an adult, he spends all his time criticizing anything having to do with Judaism - from the monies and material properties given back to survivors of the holocaust, to the very existence of Israel.  He chooses to do so, not because he really cares about Germans, and Muslims living in Gaza and the West Bank, but because he wants to appear like a "good and obedient Jew."  If the American n**i Party or Islamic extremists should ever decide to murder Jews, Finklstien thinks he will be kept alive for being a "good and obedient Jew."

Those are the people who give Jewish people a bad name.  It all stems from fear.

In reference to the answer above.  There is no monetary lending establishment in the world, Jewish or otherwise, that becomes lenient to those who are unable to pay off their mortgage.  If a loan is unpaid, repossession is to be expected.  Recently in the USA, many people have lost their homes to banks and have even gone bankrupt.  This does not mean that all American bankers should be exterminated.

Yes, I agree.

For such a small race, they have punched hugely above their weight!  I'd prefer to concentrate on the positives, though I'm not Jewish myself.

I suppose Judas Iscariot would be an obvious candidate as a "rotten apple".  Depending upon your political views, this is not a personal opinion one way or the other, but some might have a particular distaste for Karl Marx.

I won't go on, because I don't want to focus on something which might encourage Arab/Israeli rancour.

Naturally the same courtesy is also extended to the Muslims.  In the end, we are all just people.  What a shame their are extremists out there.  Most people just want a good life, and has always, the few ruin it for the many.

there are good and bad people in every religion, so why dont people dislike them? well the answer is that many people are jealous of the jewish people, because they have always been successful.

First let me say I have many Jewish friends and they're great people.  So when i was in  Germany I asked some German friends why there was enough hatred for the Jews during Hitler's time to support his cleansing, and I got an answer that made sense, even though it surely doesn't justify what happened.  They said the Germans were really suffering economically and the Jewish minority there was doing relatively well, but were rather exclusive and kept the jobs and money "in the family" i.e., wouldn't hire Germans.  Then there were Jewish lenders who showed little mercy when the Germans couldn't make their loan payments, so there were foreclosures, repos, evictions, etc.  So then nationalism took over and the idea that here was a minority doing well in their country and wouldn't share with the natives of the country, so, you know the rest....

There are many , many famous & good Jewish people . People are people  though .good & bad in all . Their faith , ethnicity , or creed does not determine their morality.

   That said ,  i would point out Norman  Finkelstien as an example of a good Jewish person. His heart cries out for justice for the oppressesd . He is a shining beacon of goodness that lights up The darkest corners of inhumanity & exposes them , Read  BEYOND CHUTZPAH

     An example of a bad Jew would be Dershowitz  the Harvad law proffessor . He holds shocking rabid right wing views . He advocates destruction of  innocent Palestinian homes , giving them 24 hours to leave before they are bulldozed .
