Question:

There are no atheists in fox holes?

Let's pretend this is true. Let's pretend that, when my life comes to a point that it is very likely that it will end very soon, I turn to all sorts of things that I once found ridiculous. What does that say for faith then? For those who would use such a line on someone, what does that say for your faith? I'm strong enough at the moment to question the "unquestionables" and one day my mortality will be at hand and in a moment of intellectual weakness I will appeal to all kinds of ridiculous things, this lends credibility to faith?

"See, you guys do it when you're desperate too."

"So you admit that your belief in God is out of desperation?"

Though it's not true, look here

  1. It's trenches not foxholes

  2. I have some good friends who are vets and atheists. They flip out when someone brings up this "no atheists in foxholes" cr@p. And it's an outrage how extreme-right fundamentalists, with the blessing of the Bush regime, are taking over the military and discriminating against non-fundies.

  3. What?  What you are trying to propose is absurd and presented poorly.  You have a some what valid point but when you aren’t clearly presenting it you do yourself an injustice.  You are presumably saying that ‘what is faith when it’s used so conveniently or as a security fund? ’.  In the sense that you present it, yes, what is that ‘faith’?  Faith: believing with out seeing, putting an ultimate trust in something that can not be “proven”.  I also question weather or not those people have real faith, that is only a mockery of what faith in God and Jesus Christ is all about, though it’s NOT my place to judge others hearts, its Gods.  Not everyone chooses this last minute or under the gun 'method'.  I didn't, I was 7 and knew God was real and that He wanted me and I wanted Him.  Even if someone does this last minute things if they truly mean it then yes it is faith.  Sometimes it takes this start for some to realize what they had been ignoring and putting off for years.  OK, so I’m done with this answer, if you are dense enough to not comprehend this then anything more I put will be to no avail to your heart.

Who ever thumbs down me...lol, do you really think it matters?  This person probably wont if read all of my answer let alone pick it, plus do you think a thumbs down really does anything? Sigh* good job to all who just thumbs up! WooHoo!

LOL, thanks for taking the time to read.  I truly think you either have confused friends or don't know any true "Christians".  The fact alone that you doubt the power of faith is enough to signify that you are a pessimist or at the very least a good bit pessimistic (plus, I'll be honest, it was fun to write and I'm really tired after only getting a few hours of sleep while on my way home this morning {this means I'm grumpy}).  About your thoughts being absurd, I believe I have just reason to declare that.  You say all of this from other peoples 'experience', I don't see how you can have any true understanding as to what you are talking about since you haven't even experienced it.  I also have a hard time believing that a guy who can't even comprehend the topic can reasonably argue for or against it.

    Sincerely Sanguine

Darn, I forgot one more point as to why I'd call you pessimist, OK, I need you to do something for me, look up on the left of your screen, now what do you see at the top of this page?  You see a cross with a line going through it with the words Hateful Athiest underneither...sigh*. Interesting hauh?

  4. You just keep on pretending, until life has past you by. What will you pretend then?

  5. That statement piqued my interest as I know it is a LIE from personal experience.

I have never asked or expected help from invisible sky critters.

To extract myself from c**p I have relied on family, friends or myself; invisible sky critters are NOT gonna swoop down to haul me out from any type of mire.

  6. Yeah, it's kind of like Job in reverse.

  7. Yeah...I was one.  Anyone who says that is insulting every single one of us that served our country.

  8. You put yourself down as Hateful Atheist? Goodness, I think talk about compassion! I think that says a lot about you right there, and it all comes across really negative.

First of all, there are two types of Christians, the true children of God, and the Christians by name. The first have actually accepted God as their Lord and Saviour. They want to follow Him for the rest of their lives and they admit they are sinners and not worthy of what God has given them. The other people attend church, pray, do all these christianly activities, thinking that their salvation is from works, which is wrong. Just bear that in mind.

And in a way, we are desperate. Without God, we are lost, completely helpless. God did not send His one and only Son because He needed us. He sent His one and only Son because He LOVED us. He loves everyone, I repeat, EVERYONE. Even those who go around calling themselves the Hateful Atheist. He loves you, even though you don't even acknowledge His existence.

Some people say, "Well if He loves everyone? Why isn't everyone saved?" God gave His Son so that we could go to Heaven, but it is an invitation. And because He gave us a free will, we have the choice to accept or refuse this invitation."

I understand your how you think those who are Christians are just trying to save themselves, but the true Christian not just wants to be a child of God, but he wants to follow God, and please Him. But we are sinners, unperfect and we do not always do that. But through God's mercy and forgiveness, He washes away our sins.

If you feel I haven't answered thoroughly enough, or just have more questions, feel free to say something and I will gladly answer them.

As Bob the Tomato always says on Veggie Tales, "God made you, and He loves you very much." (And "very much" is actually too large and bountiful for minds to comprehend. He loves us, I can't begin to describe it. It is overflowing, it has no end.)

    \o/ Praise God!!! \o/

Edit: Take a look at my comment on your rapture questions, its short, but addresses the chosen answer, and He was WAY of with his bible analysis. He should know what he is talking about before making such absurd comments!

  9. There are no atheists in foxholes much the same way that there are no Christians in Mensa.
