There are no speaking directions

There are no speaking directions on my TomTom GO720 e.g. for 'turn left' or 'take the next exit' or 'continue for 3 miles'. It only beeps for speed cameras etc. We have ticked all the boxes on the sound settings menu so why is it not working?
